What is Dyslexia Therapy?
Dyslexia Therapy is a structured, specialized system of teaching. Brain imaging has found that dyslexic brains work differently, and dyslexia therapy is based on those findings.
Dyslexia Therapy is:
- research-based - individualized
- multisensory - explicit
- systematic - cumulative
It is centered on phonics, and it teaches the functions of reading, writing, fluency, spelling, comprehension, and oral and written expression.

What does a lesson look like?
If you were to watch a lesson, you would see an intensive lesson that moves at a rapid pace. You may see skywriting, manipulating alphabet letters, or analyzing vocabulary. Or, you may see word coding, echo reading, or words written on a tabletop full of shaving cream. You would see a lesson that was specifically designed for that student. You would see a student engaged in learning.
How long are the lessons? How many times per week?
Lessons are approximately 50 minutes long.
Each student will have different needs, but for dyslexics, repetition and consistency are key. Students will generally need to attend dyslexia therapy 3-5 times per week.
