Whitney Bonner, C.A.L.T., Licensed Dyslexia Therapist
I have been in the field of education for 25 years, and in the field of dyslexia for 21 of those years. I began my teaching career as a third grade teacher. During my first year of teaching, I had a student in my class who was not progressing, and I could not figure out how to help this bright child. I referred him to our counselor and our special education department, but he did not qualify for any special services. I was at a loss. This began my journey into the field of dyslexia.
In 2000, I attended SMU's highly regarded Learning Therapy Program, and I became a Certified Academic Language Therapist two years later. As a therapist, I have seen great results from my students, and I remain in touch with each of their families.
A parent once told me that when her daughter began to read, "she couldn't get enough of it. It was like she had put glasses on, and was seeing the world for the first time."
I have the privilege of giving children the best gift that I can think of - the gift of reading.
